Gir National Park is the only home for Asiatic Lions. Gir National Park was established on 18th September 1965. It is 65 Kms from Junagadh and it the park covers a huge area of 1412 Sq. Km.in the Saurashtra regions of Gujarat. Asiatic Lions were once on the verge of extinction but due to conservation efforts of the authorities. Gir is in the list of researchers because after Africa, this is the only place where Asiatic Lions can be found. Gir is blessed with deciduous forest cover, rich wildlife and different plant species. The Royal King of Jungle has found his comfort in Sasan Gir. Hence the lovers of Lions often make their way to the jungles of Gir.
Best time to visit Gir: The ideal time to visit Sasan Gir National Park is from December to March.
The Park remains closed from 16th June to 15 October because of the arrival of monsoon season. During April and May the park remains open but due to scorching heat, it is not the best time to visit. Though this is the time when Lions move out for water hence there are chances of spotting Lions easily.
Temperature:
During the day the temperature soars high. It reaches to about 45oC and in the night it may lower down to around 10OC.

Railways
The nearest Railways station is at Junagadh. Sasan Gir National Park is about 1.5 hours drive from Junagadh. If you want to reach Gir via Veraval then the travel time is around 1 hour. In case you do not wish to hire a taxi, public buses are running continuously from Junagadh and Veraval to Sasan Gir National Park.
